We had such a nice few days at castle ward with our dogs ! The staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating, the scenery and location is beautiful, and the facilities are clean and reliable (warm showers!). It’s an ideal place for dogs: there’s a dog (and bike) washing station with a high pressure hose at a good temperature for the pooches, and a range of beautiful walks; dogs have to be on leads but there is apparently one enclosure where you can let them off. The Lobster Pot and the Cuan in Strangford village allow dogs inside if you want to go out for food, both are very nice (but make sure you book, they are very popular even in the week). One piece of advice is not to get the bus into Downpatrick—£4 for a single and it’s a horrendous journey (driver must have been doing 80 down a very bumpy road!). The ferry to Portaferry is well worth it though.

We stayed 4 nights at Castleward. Elaine and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! A well kept site with limited facilities. Definitely will visit again. Plenty of beautiful walks around the estate. A 15 min walk into Strangford where there’s nice restaurants. Dog friendly too.

an alarm went off in an unoccupied cabin, it was dealt with quickly even though it was 1am. Staff were lovely. Facilities all in good order. Generally a lovely peaceful few days and would love to visit again

Had a lovely four day stay at this campsite in our motorhome. Very friendly and welcoming staff who made us feel very welcome. The facilities are spotlessly clean, fairly basic but adequate for our needs. If I have a criticism about them then it is the lack of adequate drainage in the less able bathroom. The floor became flooded and because of my disability I was unable to push the excess down the drain without becoming exhausted. The site is very peaceful and there are lots of walking trails. You can see the lough from the site. There are full recycling facilities a wash up area and launderrette type machines. Would highly recommend staying on this site.

The facilities are poor, and not up to modern standards for caravan tourer sites. The pitches are often uneven and in need of improvement. The entrance to the site off the main road is slightly hidden and difficult. The park itself is accessed by a narrow opening between two pillars with gates, whose hinges also extend into the space for the car and caravan to pass through. Not great for wider vans and a lot of modern SUVs. The only plus is the location - the area is beautiful.
