We stayed here in mid July, back to basics camping in a beautiful location. Pitches were very small and not well mown, but we understand that they are trying to keep it like that for wildlife etc. For us the pitch sizes would stop us from returning as even in our T6 we found it too small. Stone circle could do with a mow so you can actually see it, probably better for tenters this one, still had a great time and fellow campers were mega friendly.

Lovely place. Proper camping, but with clean toilets and clean showers. You can even have a fire as well, albeit, in the fire pit. Can't fault it. Loved it. Will definitely be back with friends to enjoy a few days and nights. Thanks xx

What is a near perfect campsite is completely ruined by church bells going off every 15 minutes...ALL NIGHT LONG...yeah earplugs can help, and it stems some of the noise, but it's still there if you're on an exposed pitch, and disturbs sleep. And then the pleasure of natural sounds aren't there. Whilst I recognise that the campsite has no control over this, and I feel for them, it's not conducive to peaceful camping at all. It's noise pollution clear and simple. Very disappointed.

If you are looking for a camping trip that is quiet with freshly mowed grass then this camping site is NOT for you We left within two minutes of arriving because of how stressed we were with how different the photos looked on the website compared to what this actually looked like in person. What I believe was due to the overgrown messy grass the grasshoppers were extremely loud, this may sound daft but as soon as we got out the car we could not hear ourselves think and felt automatically stressed by the noise. We have been camping many times and have never been phased by the wildlife but this noise was a whole different level and something that can easily be reduced if the grass was mowed. The part were we were about to place our tent was mowed shorter however, there would not have been room for a medium sized tent plus a big peice of tarp and a table that we always use when camping, imagining what we usually do automatically made me feel claustrophobic. As all around the place where we were going to place our tent was long overgrown grass! We walked around to look at other parts of the campsite and I felt that we had paid to go "wild camping" when we could have went wild camping anywere for free! We could not see the toilets or showers anywere although we were told they do have them, all we seen was a "compost loo" & that's when our minds were made up to leave. We asked for our deposit back due to informing him before our check in time that we were leaving and him seeing how stressed we were however, instead he just thought "grasshopper noise" should not warrant a refund despite informing him that there were also numerous other reasons to why we had left. One other being the camp site felt as though it had been completely abandoned for example, there was no reception, the cafe was closed, there was approximately about two other tents in the whole field and again the grass was long and messy! Definetely not our cuppa tea. Stayed somewhere else which was cheaper, all areas had been mowed, 24/7 reception, more popular with more tents dotted about, toilets easily spotted etc! Therefore, never again.

Have just been for a lovely weekend in our camper at holycombe camping . It was definitely wild camping with lots of long grass and nature . Toilets and shower although very basic were clean , the showers water pressure was great and hot. My only downsides were that we didn’t get any welcome email or any information as to where to pitch . We had to call through which was hard as there isn’t much phone service .the electric pitch we had was very small for our campervan but for tents non electric they were great Also the site has been left to become very wild which is lovely but felt the photos on the website showed a very well maintained site rather than more wild camping that it is . The church bells every 15 mins was beautiful but during the night it kept my husband awake ( I slept amazingly) so maybe ear plugs for light sleeper . The village is beautiful and the pub the Norman knights was fantastic, friendly staff and great food . All in all a lovely weekend just not much communication and slightly different to what we were expecting.
