The warden on this site is super friendly We were in a Campervan. We stayed on a premium hard standing with waste and water and the pitch was large and definitely better than the grass alternatives. The facilities are clean but not really adequate for a site as big, 1 shower per gender made for morning queues- so we found ourselves up early for showers The location served us well as we are walking Hadrians wall E-W. We did the Newcastle stretch to Elswick, then drive the van to site. Day 2 we got an Uber pet back to Elswick and walked to Heddon on the wall. There is then a regular bus every hour from Heddon on the wall to 10 mins down the road from the site (pipers road) bus number 684. We asked the bus driver if he’d be able to drop us outside the gate and he did Unfortunately our first night on site was interrupted during our dinner taken outside the van by another camper who was staying who used our private water tap on our pitch. He did ask and we said yes thinking one fill, fair enough at least he asked/ but then he kept returning to refill despite us sat enjoying our dinner. We eventually said enough now, and he got quite rude saying the warden had told him to use our tap. We suggested to him he obviously meant whilst no one was on pitch. Common sense surely?! The fellow camper got a bit argumentative back to us which upset us and was not really necessary. The following day we overheard the warden welcome another camper and he clearly said to them to use the water on the serviced pitches until the pitch became occupied. So the camper who came onto our pitch was clearly making it up that the warden told him to use our water. A water tap on the grass pitch area would definitely help this situation as to be fair it’s a bit of a walk to water for those on grass. Anyway despite that - and that’s wasn’t really the fault of the site. We had a good stay but would say the site was overpriced. There are construction works ongoing outside and the site has a dated feel to it. It wouldn’t be our first choice to return to but the location served its purpose for this trip.

Looks lovely, hardstanding is great, but facilities are shocking. Please do not waste your money, it's a shame as the warden Flash is so lovely. The water is not warm, the ladies toilet seat falls off its dirty and the shower mop has seen better days. No disabled block and the steps down to the toilets and showers are dangerous when wet. Says theres washing facilities but you have to ask the warden for a key, still cant find any bins but will keep looking. The Donkeys are very cute. Very overpriced.🙁

Very quiet site, large hard standing pitches, just been bought over by McGuires who are spending money doing the place up, toilets are a bit dated but spotlessly clean, Gordon the Warden is an absolute Gem, you need to find out anything (places, to eat, walk ), nothing is ever too much trouble for him, we will definitely be back

Fantastic stay camping here as we finished our walk along the wall. The highlight was the fantastic customer service from Gordie the Geordie. Thank you and hope we have the opportunity to come back.

Lovely site, within easy reach of Newcastle. Warden (Gordon) was so friendly and helpful and kept the site tidy. Definitely visit again
