Very conveniently located campsite for walking the pennine way. Host were lovely and very accommodating for us arriving late. Campsite was a bit rocky and on a slight slope with lots of midges but at this point happy for anything

The owners were friendly and pottered around the site asking if we were ok. Very nice to see. There was no water available except for a tap that was turned off because it had been leaking for some time. It was turned on so I could get water but was turned straight off again afterwards. I searched but could not see toilets or a shower block, maybe it was out of sight hidden around the back somewhere. The web site I viewed said: dogs only on leads, - there were three allegedly ‘not pit bulls’ running loose, No music - one camper had speakers outside and was entertaining the whole site whether you wanted it or not. Fishing on site. - the river was less than three inches deep. Wild swimming - again three inches deep and about 8 foot wide. The pitches were not serviced with electricity except for one. And were a mixture of grass and stone, which was workable if uncomfortable under foot. The web sites used have contradictory information some offering exceptional amenities, others saying it’s a basic hide away site. If you are self contained and don’t mind the basic life then I would recommend the site for the views alone. But for £25 per night for a square of grass to park on I think it needs to be improved to come in line with other sites that are in competition. In summary, nice people , nice views, needs attention to basics

We booked the B&B room. Very lovely place with the mill and you can see water flowing from the window. Richard and his wife were wonderful hosts. The campsite is lovely for hikers walking the Pennine Way as well.

Stayed here some years ago. There has been quite a few improvements the shower and toilets are greatly improved for campers. There is also a bar that Richard runs which looks really good. Just near the camping by the river which was lovely then and still is is a veranda with seating. As Pennine way walkers having a hot shower in a decent large clean space was appreciated. There is water point and washing sink. There lot more improvements and couple obviously investing and money.

Lovely little spot for campers and Brontë aficionados. If you want to visit all the books’ sites, this is the closest you can get. Richard and Barbara welcomed us with a lot of information and were very helpful. The historic mill and its surrounding campground are beautiful and we very much enjoyed our stay there. Toilet and showers are at hand, as well as an outdoor sink for washing dishes.
